"The Familiar" —
Ethereal Woman and Cat, Oil on Canvas. Original oil painting
by Bonny Hut
She is not quite in this world. Draped in veils of molten
red, she emerges from a dream — half woman, half spirit, with a crown that
melts into smoke. Her gaze is calm, knowing, ancient. Her hand hovers, not
quite touching, over her familiar. He is her anchor. Wide-eyed, grounded,
utterly real amidst the swirling ether.
While she dissolves into light and
memory, he remains solid, fur, whiskers, and soul. Anyone who has ever loved a
cat will recognize this bond instantly — that silent understanding between two
creatures who travel between worlds together.
I painted this in oils to capture
that thin veil between the seen and unseen. The red is not just a color here,
it's an energy — passion, protection, lifeblood. The flashes of turquoise are
breath, spirit, the moments of clarity in the haze.
The floating orbs are
thoughts, memories, or perhaps little universes being conjured between them. This
is not a painting of a woman with a cat. It's a painting of two beings who
share one soul. It’s sensual, mysterious, and deeply comforting all at once.
It
belongs in a space where you want to feel both powerful and protected — a
bedroom, a reading nook, a sacred corner. For the collector: This is a large,
luminous oil that changes with the light throughout the day.
The original is
richly layered — you can see the translucent glazes and the texture of the
veils when you stand close.
